About the Author

I am a student starting my career in information technology and software engineering. This is currently a student project with the goal of providing helpful information to others. I am a student with my college degree in information sciences and technology. My focus in college was design and development. I received this college degree from Penn State World Campus. The main focus of my degree was in the software section. I have experience with web development, software development, and more. I have primarily worked as a Java developer in college developing graphical users interfaces and console programs. Most of it was Java basics. I have also worked with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript as electives in college. I have also worked with MySQL Workbench and recently MongoDB and Linux. I am continuing to learn more efficient development processes and starting a career in software engineering.

About the Author: Me and My Dad with Technology

I began my technology journey when I picked up my first video game console, the original PlayStation. I would say that I loved playing games when I was really young, but eventually, I started to learn about computer science and information technology when I was in high school. There was a Windows Vista computer that I had at home before then, but I lived most of my life exposed to technology. I started programming in my sophomore year of high school, and now I have a degree. I also have an interest in technology, unlike many other people who just use it today for many of their needs. I would definitely call myself a digital native. Today, I still love to play and collect video games. The best way to do this is with one device, a home computer. I love to use platforms like Steam and Emulators.

My father is someone who did not grow up with technology. His first computer was the Windows Vista that we had, and he was in his forties at the time. He had always been good at fixing cars and mechanical equipment and had several jobs related to this. He does not have an interest in technology like I do and does not want to learn too much about it. He only wants to use technology if he needs to, and he is definitely a digital immigrant. He has played video games before as well, but now he plays very rarely.

With our complete differences in technology, I would say that it can be hard to talk to my father sometimes because he has a limited understanding of technology and even my current job. I worked as an intern in software development, which was something I needed to get my degree, and it is hard to explain to him what I do. I find technology to be easy to use and have little to no problems with it. My dad will always have problems with things like a smartphone or smart television because they are things he never grew up with. However, I have a hard time understanding cars and mechanical tools, and my dad has little to no problems with them.

More advanced technology, like smartphones, tablets, smart televisions, and computers weren’t invented until around the late 1990s and early 2000s. Technology continues to be a volatile industry with great new innovations emerging all the time. This is something that someone who was born forty, fifty, or sixty years ago would have trouble understanding and keeping up with.
